Belém é uma cidade localizada no estado do Pará, na região norte do Brasil. A partir de 2021, a população estimada de Belém é de aproximadamente 1,5 milhão de pessoas, tornando-se uma das maiores cidades da região amazônica e a 11ª maior cidade do Brasil.

Em termos de desenvolvimento humano, Belém possui um Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano (IDH) de 0,746, considerado "alto”. A cidade avançou significativamente nos últimos anos nos indicadores de educação, saúde e qualidade de vida.

É um dos principais centros econômicos da região amazônica, com uma economia diversificada que inclui agricultura, pesca, mineração e turismo. É também uma importante cidade portuária, servindo de porta de entrada para o rio Amazonas e para o restante da região norte do Brasil.
Em termos de biodiversidade, Belém está localizada em uma das regiões de maior diversidade ecológica do mundo, com uma rica variedade de flora e fauna.

A cidade é cercada pela floresta amazônica, que abriga inúmeras espécies ameaçadas de extinção, e também está situada na foz do rio Amazonas, um dos maiores rios do mundo.

Belém também deve se tornar um importante centro global de discussões sobre mudanças climáticas, pois sediará a 30ª Conferência das Partes da Convenção-Quadro das Nações Unidas sobre Mudança do Clima (COP 30) em 2025. Esta conferência é um evento global crucial que reúne líderes mundiais e formuladores de políticas para discutir e coordenar esforços para lidar com as mudanças climáticas.
Belém is a city in the state of Pará, in the northern region of Brazil. In 2021, the population of Belém is estimated to be around 1.5 million people. This makes Belém one of the largest cities in the Amazon region and the 11th largest city in Brazil.
In terms of human development, Belém has a Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.746, which is considered “high”. In recent years, the city has made considerable progress in the areas of education, health and quality of life.
It is one of the most important economic centers in the Amazon region with a diversified economy that includes agriculture, fishing, mining, and tourism. It is also an important port city that serves as a gateway to the Amazon and the rest of the northern region of Brazil.
In terms of biodiversity, Belém is located in one of the most ecologically diverse regions in the world, with a rich variety of flora and fauna.
The city is surrounded by the Amazon rainforest, which is home to numerous endangered species and is also located at the mouth of the Amazon, one of the largest rivers in the world.
Belém will also become an important global center for discussions on climate change, as it will host the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 30) in 2025. This conference is an important global event that will bring together leaders and decision-makers from around the world to discuss and coordinate efforts to combat climate change.

A Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA) é uma renomada instituição de ensino superior pública brasileira, situada no estado do Pará e sediada em Belém1. O Instituto de Ciências Biológicas da UFPA (ICB) é um centro de excelência que estuda a vida em suas diversas manifestações: vegetal, animal e humana. O instituto se destaca pela qualidade, quantidade e diversidade de sua produção científica, contando com 11 programas de pós-graduação. Essa produção científica é fruto da prática e da vivência com outros cientistas, vivendo a Amazônia e estando presente a cada dia, nos seus desafios e conquistas.

The Federal University of Pará (UFPA) is a renowned Brazilian public higher education institution in the state of Pará, based in Belém1. It was founded in 1957 and some of its faculties such as Pharmacy (founded in 1903) and Medicine (founded in 1919) are among the oldest in Brazil.
